When Ideology Takes The Pulpit
Whose Word Are We Going to Believe?
There comes a time when every child of God must decide whose word will govern his and her thinking: the Word of God or the words of men. Political parties change, social movements rise and fall, and popular opinions shift with the times. But God's Word does not change to accommodate the culture. Our responsibility is not to make Scripture agree with the world; it is to examine everything the world teaches in the light of Scripture.God Created People; Men Created Categories.
Genesis 1:26–27 tells us that God created mankind in His image. Human worth, therefore, does not come from skin color, nationality, ancestry, political affiliation, wealth, or social standing. It comes from the fact that human beings are God's creation. Acts 10:34–35 records Peter's recognition that God is no respecter of persons, and Romans 2:11 states plainly that there is no respect of persons with God.
The Greek word in Acts 10:34 is prosōpolēptēs, meaning a person who shows partiality or favoritism. In Romans 2:11, the related Greek expression prosōpolēmpsia means partiality. James 2:1 warns believers against holding the faith of Jesus Christ while showing respect of persons. James then illustrates the problem by describing how people may honor the rich while dishonoring the poor. The sin is not limited to racial discrimination. It includes favoring or judging people according to outward distinctions rather than righteous judgment.
This means we cannot excuse discrimination against one group while condemning it against another. We cannot claim that God is impartial and then make exceptions whenever prejudice serves our preferred political or social cause. God's standard applies to everyone. Even YOU! Whether you believe in Him or not.
What Do W.O.K.E. And D.E.I. Actually Stand For?
The terms W.O.K.E. and D.E.I. are often used in arguments about discrimination, fairness, representation, and social justice. D.E.I. stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The word woke has been used to describe awareness of social injustice, but it has also become a label for particular political and cultural ideologies. Neither a label nor a slogan proves that a belief or policy is righteous or unrighteous. We have to examine what is actually being taught and practiced.
Removing an unjust barrier, treating people fairly, and refusing to discriminate are consistent with Scripture. But if a policy judges people by their race, assigns guilt to individuals because of their ancestry, or favors one person over another without regard to the facts, calling that policy equitable does not make it just.
The Bible already gives us a standard for equity. Psalm 98:9 speaks of the LORD judging the world with righteousness and the people with equity. The Hebrew word translated equity is מֵישָׁרִים (meysharim), referring to uprightness, fairness, and what is right. Proverbs 2:9 uses the same word when speaking of righteousness, judgment, and equity. Biblical equity is not permission to exchange one injustice for another. It calls for what is upright and right before God.
Leviticus 19:15 commands, “You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: you shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt you judge your neighbour.” Notice that neither poverty nor wealth is to distort judgment. The principle is impartial righteousness, not automatic preference for one category of people.
Proverbs 31:8–9 commands us to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and to judge righteously. We cannot ignore people who have been wronged. Neither should we assume that every claim made in the name of justice is true. We are commanded to defend the vulnerable and judge rightly, which requires us to examine the facts rather than simply accept some person’s movement's claims.
History Matters, But Personal Guilt Must Be Justly Assigned
Slavery, racial oppression, and discrimination have caused real suffering. Calling those wrongs what they are does not require us to assign guilt to people who did not commit them (descendants). Nor does refusing inherited personal guilt require us to deny the consequences of past injustice.
Ezekiel 18:20 states that the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, nor the father bear the iniquity of the son. In its context, the chapter teaches individual accountability before God. A person is accountable for his own conduct; ancestry alone does not establish personal guilt.
If a person or institution continues an unjust practice, that present injustice has to be addressed. If someone has been wrongfully denied an opportunity, the wrong should be corrected. But punishing an innocent person for the actions of someone else does not become righteous simply because the punishment is presented as compensation.
Proverbs 11:1 declares that a false balance is an abomination to the LORD, while a just weight is His delight. The principle applies to judgment: the standard must be honest. Proverbs 17:15 likewise condemns justifying the wicked and condemning the just. We cannot correct one injustice by committing another.
Do Not Confuse A Political Claim With Proven Truth.
When public officials, activists, organizations, or media platforms make claims about injustice, discrimination, political movements, or violence, we need to examine the evidence. The same standard applies whether the claim supports our preferred side or challenges it.
Proverbs 18:13 warns against answering a matter before hearing it. Proverbs 18:17 observes that the first person to present a case may appear right until another comes and questions it. These Scriptures give us sound instruction: hear the matter, examine the evidence, and do not reach a verdict before the facts are established. Don’t be just an echo of what you’ve been told. Examine.
This is especially important when allegations arise that wealthy individuals or organizations are financing political unrest or riots in other countries. We should ask who supplied the money, which organizations received it, what the funds were intended to support, and whether reliable evidence connects that money to unlawful violence. Funding a political organization or a civil-rights cause is not, by itself, proof of financing a riot. Conversely, an official denial is not, by itself, proof that an allegation is false.
Neither accusation nor denial settles the matter. Evidence does.
Peaceful protest and violent rioting are not the same thing. People may lawfully oppose a government or policy without participating in violence. Those who commit violence must be judged by their own actions, not by assumptions about everyone who shares their political views. Romans 12:21 commands us not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good. We cannot claim to oppose evil while excusing it whenever it benefits our side.
When Political Ideology Enters The Pulpit
A preacher's responsibility is not to make God's Word acceptable to every political movement. His responsibility is to proclaim the truth, even when that truth confronts the congregation, the government, a popular movement, or the preacher himself.
Paul instructed Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2–4 to preach the word, reprove, rebuke, and exhort with patience and sound doctrine. He warned that people would turn away from sound teaching to teachers who told them what they wanted to hear. That warning is not limited to one political party or one generation. It applies whenever people prefer comforting opinions over God's truth.
Jesus prayed in John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” The Greek word for truth is ἀλήθεια (alētheia). God's truth is not determined by public approval, political pressure, or the number of people who agree with it.
Galatians 1:10 asks whether we seek the approval of men or of God. A preacher who changes his teaching merely to satisfy the culture has a serious question to answer before the Lord. James 3:1 warns that those who teach will receive the greater judgment. The pulpit is not a platform for gaining popularity; it is a place of responsibility before God. Teaching HIS TRUTH to the people.
This does not give preachers permission to condemn entire groups of people without evidence or to replace biblical teaching with personal prejudice. The same Scriptures that command us to confront wrongdoing also command righteous judgment. We must neither silence God's truth to please people nor falsely accuse people in the name of defending it.
If anyone commands us to abandon what God has commanded us to teach, Acts 5:29 provides the answer: “We ought to obey God rather than men.” The Bereans in Acts 17:11 were commended because they examined the Scriptures to determine whether Paul's teaching was true. Their example shows that even religious teaching must be tested against God's Word.
God's Standard Must Remain Our Standard.
Romans 12:2 instructs us not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds so that we may discern the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Isaiah 5:20 warns against calling evil good and good evil, putting darkness for light and light for darkness.
That warning should make every one of us examine our own loyalties. Are we judging a matter by what God says, or by what our political side says? Do we condemn wrongdoing consistently, or do we excuse it when our preferred people commit it? Do we defend the innocent regardless of who they are, or only when doing so benefits our cause?
God does not ask us to accept every modern definition of justice, nor does He permit us to ignore genuine injustice. He commands us to judge righteously, speak truthfully, reject partiality, defend those who are wronged, and hold every person accountable according to the truth.
We cannot allow political movements to rewrite Scripture, nor can we use Scripture to justify our own prejudices. Every claim, policy, leader, preacher, and movement has to be examined by the same standard: the Word of God.For in the end, the question is not whether we have conformed to the world. The question is whether we have remained faithful to God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, my God and King, I worship You and praise Your holy name! You alone are righteous, Your judgments are true, and Your Word endures forever. Thank You for Your truth, Your wisdom, and Your unfailing faithfulness. You are worthy of all honor, glory, and praise!
Father, search my heart and correct anything in me that is not pleasing to You. Give me wisdom to discern truth from deception, courage to stand for righteousness, and humility to judge fairly without partiality. Keep me from being conformed to this world, and help me never to exchange Your truth for the approval of men.
Strengthen those who faithfully proclaim Your Word. Expose deception, bring injustice to light, defend the innocent, and give wisdom to those in authority. Help me speak the truth in love, stand firm in Your Word, and obey You above all others.
Father, let my thoughts, words, and actions glorify You. Keep me faithful to Your truth until the end. I give You all praise, honor, and glory, in the name of Yeshua, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Don't take my word for it. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, search the Scriptures daily to see whether these things are so. Open your Bible, study God's Word for yourself, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. Don't simply accept my conclusions. If what I've written agrees with Scripture, hold fast to it. If it doesn't, let God's Word be your final authority.
