Adventures In Faith
In The Scripture, we read about people who stepped out in faith without having every answer first. Abraham is one of the clearest examples. God told him to leave the familiar and go to a land that would be shown to him later. Genesis 12:1 says, “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get out of your country… unto a land that I will show you.” He did not have the full map. He had the voice of God. So he went. He faced famine, fear, delay, and testing, yet the Lord proved faithful through it all.
We see the same truth at the Red Sea. Israel stood trapped between the water and Pharaoh’s army. Fear rose quickly, but God made a way where no way could be seen. Moses said, Exodus 14:13, “Fear not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.” Then the sea opened. That story still speaks today. Life may corner us, but the Lord is never cornered.
David also teaches us this kind of faith. He was young, overlooked, and armed with little more than a sling, yet he knew the God who had already delivered him before. He said, 1 Samuel 17:37, “The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” David remembered past help, and that memory gave present courage.
Then we meet the woman with the issue of blood. Twelve years of suffering had not killed her hope. She pressed through the crowd just to touch the hem of the Lord’s garment. Matthew 9:21 says, “If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.” And she was. Sometimes faith crawls, pushes, and reaches through pain, but it still reaches.
These are not just old stories. They are reminders for us now. Faith is still trusting when we cannot see ahead. Faith is still standing when fear says run. Faith is still reaching for Christ when strength feels gone. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “Without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
We have to keep pressing on, seeking Him, trusting Him, and staying awake in spirit. Every step of true faith brings us nearer to our Heavenly Father.
There is also another great adventure of faith: sharing the truth of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To witness for Him is not always easy, but it is our holy work, joyful work, and a seriously necessary work.
Jesus Himself came proclaiming good news, healing, liberty, and truth. Luke 4:18 says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor…” His ministry showed us the heart of God toward a broken world.
After His resurrection and ascension, the apostles carried that message boldly. At Pentecost, Peter preached Christ crucified and risen. Acts 2:36 says, “God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Many believed, repented, and were baptized that very day. The fire of God moved, and lives changed.
Paul is another witness of God’s wondrous grace. Once a persecutor of believers in Christ, dragging them off to be slain, he became a preacher of the faith he once fought against. He wrote, Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes.” He had been given the same treatments those he once persecuted got: beatings, prison, storms, rejection; none of it silenced him.
Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch show us something beautiful too. One hungry soul reading Scripture. One obedient servant sent by the Spirit. One conversation. One changed life. God still works like that.
Witnessing is not only words spoken on a street corner. It is also kindness, mercy, truth, patience, and love lived before others. Our lives (should) preach even when our mouths are quiet.
I have done my share of street witnessing with my beloved husband. Yes, it was an adventure, but it was also fun and a true blessing. The joy on people’s faces when they receive Christ Jesus as Messiah is a beautiful thing to behold. Some remembered moments stay with you for years.
Street preaching is one way to keep our wicks trimmed and our lamps filled with oil. We must stay ready. We must stay faithful. We must care about souls.
The KING is coming soon.
It's up to us to help others get ready.
Amen.
