Yeshua Told us to WATCH! (a different version)
WATCH!
That’s the word He keeps burning in my spirit. I can’t shake it. Don’t want to. Because I believe it’s not just for me. It’s a call. A cry. A shaking. For you!
It’s not poetic. It’s not sweet. It’s a siren in the spirit.
“WATCH.”
In the ancient tongue of the Greeks it’s gregoreó, γρηγορέω, to stay awake, to stay alert, to not be caught off guard. Not just eyes open, but soul alive.
Yeshua said it over and over. Gregoreó!
“Watch
therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son
of man comes.” (Matthew
25:13)
But let’s rewind. Back to the garden. Gethsemane. Oil press. That’s what "Gethsemane" means in Hebrew: גַּת שְׁמָנִים — Gat Shemanim — the place where the olives are crushed.
That’s where He sweat blood.
That’s where He said, “My
soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and
watch with me.” (Matthew 26:38)
But they didn’t watch. They slept. Just like the Body is doing now.
We sleep.
Spirit is willing. Flesh is weak.
He gets it —
but He still says: WATCH.
We’re so close to the end of the story, and the Church is nodding off. Singing. Posting. Arguing. Entertaining. But not watching.
“Shamar” שָׁמַר, the Hebrew root, it doesn’t just mean “watch” like glance around. It means guard. Keep. Preserve. Like how a priest would guard the Temple. Like how a shepherd guards the sheep. With eyes wide open and a staff in hand.
Yeshua said, “Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching.” (Luke 12:37) Why? Because that’s love. That’s longing. That’s readiness.
He’s not coming for churchgoers. He’s coming for Watchmen.
Not
the ones with the biggest followings. But the ones with trimmed
lamps.
Let me take you to the book of Revelation. The word in Greek is apokalypsis, ἀποκάλυψις, meaning "unveiling." Not destruction. Revelation isn’t about blowing everything up. It’s about revealing the King in full glory.
And right in the middle of the seven letters to the assemblies, we
get this:
“Be watchful, and strengthen the things
which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works
perfect before God.” (Revelation 3:2)
That’s the letter to Sardis. They had a reputation. People thought they were alive. Probably had good music, clean sermons, social presence. But He said: you’re dead.
He said: “If therefore you shalt not watch, I will come on you as a thief, and you shalt not know what hour I will come upon you.” (Rev 3:3)
Let that sink in.
If you don’t watch, you won’t even
know when He shows up.
Now flip back to the Hebrew Scriptures, the Tanakh. The
Book of Yechezkel (Ezekiel).
“Son of man,
I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Yisra’el: therefore
hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.”
(Ezekiel 3:17)
That’s not a job—it’s a burden. If the watchman sees the sword coming and says nothing, the blood is on his hands.
We’re not just supposed to see the signs.
We’re supposed
to warn.
Sound the alarm.
Call people to repent.
And I get it—it’s not popular. People want soft words. Peace,
peace. Grace without change. Mercy without fire.
But the
prophets didn’t talk like that.
Yochanan the Immerser (John
the Baptist) didn’t talk like that.
Yeshua definitely didn’t
talk like that.
He said, “Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 3:2)
The Hebrew word for repent is “shuv” — שׁוּב — it means to turn back. To come home.
You can’t repent without turning.
And you don’t turn if
you’re not watching.
Back to Revelation—chapter 16:15.
Yeshua speaks
again. Red letters. A warning:
“Behold, I come as a
thief. Blessed is he that watches,
and keeps his garments, lest he
walk naked, and they see his shame.”
That word “keeps” is again shamar—guard. Hold fast. Cling to righteousness like it’s your last breath. Because it is.
Nakedness there isn’t just physical. It’s spiritual exposure. The stuff nobody else sees—but He does.
Adam and Chavah (Eve) in the garden. When they sinned, they saw
they were naked. Shame came in.
Revelation is full circle. He’s
saying—don’t get caught like that again.
And listen... it’s gonna get darker.
He told us.
He said: “Then shall many be offended, and
shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false
prophets shall rise… And because iniquity shall abound, the love of
many shall wax cold.” (Matt. 24:10-12)
Cold love. That’s the real pandemic!
That’s
why we’ve got to watch.
Eyes open.
Hearts burning.
Lamps trimmed.
Remember the ten virgins? Five wise. Five foolish. All had lamps. All slept. But only five had oil. The oil wasn’t shared. You can’t borrow intimacy. You can’t buy relationship.
The wise had been watching, storing, preparing.
The Hebrew word for oil is “shemen” — שֶׁמֶן — same as the word from Gethsemane. Oil only flows through pressure. Crushing. Waiting.
So if you’re being crushed right now—good. That oil
matters.
Let it flow. Let it burn.
Watch.
Because the sky’s gonna crack open.
The trumpet’s gonna
blast.
The Son of Man is coming on the clouds, clothed in fire,
with eyes like flame and a sword from His mouth. (Revelation 19)
And the cry will go out:
“Hinei Chatan Ba!”
— הִנֵּה חָתָן
בָּא — “Behold, the
Bridegroom is coming!” (see Matthew 25)
He’s not coming for lukewarm.
He’s not coming for
“kind-of-ready.”
He’s coming for those who are watching.
Are you?
